Douglas Emery is a multidisciplinary artist who works in photography, video, illustration, and appropriation. He is interested in capitalism and technology as social systems and their effects on large and small scale. His first major work I Love You I Love You I Love You is about the dehumanizing effects of consumerism and urbanization on personal relationships. His newest work An Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution is a pedagogic project about the relationship between capitalism and technology and how it shapes labor through job automation, the gig economy, globalization, lifelong learning, and debt.
He was born in Oakland, California. In 2008, he received his BFA from Parsons School of Design. He received his MFA from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2019.
